Yoga and pranayama for detoxification

One of the primary causes of degeneration in the body and premature ageing is the presence of free radicals. Stress also adds to the accumulation of toxins in the body, giving rise to a range of ailments and wreaking havoc on the immunity.

"Degenerative diseases such as hypertension, arthritis, diabetes, immunity disorders, stroke, arteriosclerosis and heart ailments are linked to the accumulation of toxins and free radicals in the body," says Yogi Anoop.

"The accumulation of toxins in our body is natural. We cannot escape from this completely. With the kind of food we eat, the air we breathe, the water we drink and our emotional pulls and pressures, certain hormones are secreted that tend to leave behind toxins. But these toxins are eliminated naturally from our body via tears, sneezing, mucus, sweat, menstrual blood, urine and faeces," he adds.

Positive thoughts detoxify the mind and keep it agile and healthy. In most of his studies, Yogi Anoop found an intricate relationship between mental health and physical wellbeing.

"I found that one of the major sources of physical toxins are in the mind because it governs our lifestyle and regulates various bodily processes. An untrained mind will not be able to regulate the body and its various processes efficiently, as a result, toxins will not be able to get eliminated from the body. If the mind is trained well, it can deal with all this efficiently," Yogi Anoop says.

Yogic therapy and pranayama are the gateway to a healthy mind and a fit body. Hatha Yoga is something worth exploring as it facilitates detoxification through asanas like Shankha Prakshalana, Neti, Kunjal Kriya; pranayama like Kapalbhati, Agnisar Kriya, and Mudras and Bandhas like Mula Bandha and Ujjai Bandh.

Pranayama helps by creating the right vibration in the cells by working on the flow of the energy while yoga asanas free all blockages and obstacles in the energy flow. With a regular practice of yoga and pranayama, both physical and mental toxins can be eliminated.
